Dear Friends and Loyal Supporters: Happy Holidays from PULSE of NY!

This has been a wonderful year for PULSE of NY. Thanks to the support of North Shore LIJ Health System we have developed an independent Patient Safety Advisory Council. This council, which is part of my Fellowship with the American Hospital Association and National Patient Safety Foundation Patient Safety Leadership Training, is helping us to reach more New Yorkers for patient safety education.

(To view a list of Patient Safety Advisory Council Members, visit our website www.pulseofny.org and link to Patient Safety Advisory Council.)

I have been making regular hospital and nursing home visits to patients and families and continue building the bridge of communication. By helping patients to understand their treatment and their rights to safe, quality care, more families have a better understanding of their role as a partner in the patient’s care.

We have been continuing our community education programs. Family Centered Patient Advocacy Training now includes a piece on Compassionate Communication. Our training includes “An Introduction to Patient Safety” and “Family Centered Patient Advocacy Training.”

I finished my year long work with AIU Holdings and the National Patient Safety Foundation touring around the country with Stacy Nelson from Vital Smarts.

I was very fortunate to work with such an amazing and professional group of faculty! Our day long seminars, “Crucial Conversations in Healthcare” got great reviews!

This year PULSE of NY won the Organization of the Year from Long Island Women’s Agenda www.liwa.org, and we were honored at a dinner in June.

We continue our online chat rooms www.patientsafetyinfo.org where we can meet and discuss patient safety projects, support each other’s work and help anyone who is new at patient safety to move forward.
PULSE of NY has been networking around the country to bring programs and ideas to your community. We can continue this work only with your support.

If you have not made a 2009 donation, but would like to, it’s not too late. Tax deductible donations can be made by going to https://secure.groundspring.org/dn/index.php?aid=11227

Best wishes
for a happy holiday season!
